I have a 29 gal tank with 2 large Angelfish, some Tetras and Yo yo loaches. The tank is heavily planted. I have my Betta in a 1 gal tank at the moment, but I'm tempted to try and put him in the 29 gal. Would this advisable? Also if I did this, what's the best way to feed the Betta since I would have to feed him seperately from the other fish?

Thank

I wouldnt put him in with the angels or the tetras, you might be lucky but I personally wouldnt try it. Why would you have to feed him seperately?

It wont harm them to eat eachothers food. My females share a tank with cories and they mix and match the food, they arent picky!

Beware of the Angelfish and Betta combo..... Anglefish are prone to nip (badly) at bright finny fish... I have a Betta in my tank right now and it works, but my tank is filled with small/medium tetras, little better match for a Betta.... On that note though, I have owned very "mean" bettas that I could not put in with anything.... Bettas are so individual.... One will be a sweetheart the next a killer….. Good luck to you... :)

it depends on the personality of the fish. shadow i probably could try in my community, pacific, i wouldn't dare. he'd kill everything in site. he attacks his own reflection.

Thanks for the advise everyone. I'm think I'm going to take a pass on my idea. I don't want to risk anything. My Betta is doing fine where he is so maybe in the future I'll try it if I don't have Angelfish. I just thought he would look great in a heavily planted tank.

I've had Angelfish with my Neons for a while now and I haven't lost any. My Angelfish don't bother them at all and they have a lot of hiding places, but I've have heard that they can eat them.

Depends on if you have one of the VT's or the nice PK's. My PK happily lives in a community tank, but i wouldnt bother with the long finned genetically bred ones, as they will get nipped by the Angel Fish etc.

definately not the angel fish... the tetras will respect the beta but there will def be a stress factor between the angels and the beta... stress = bad

Full grown angels will eat neons, neons are angels natural diet in the wild. Angels have very tiny mouths, therefore are not physically able to eat neons until they are full grown.

Actually plakats are the closest to the natural version of the orignial fighters, and are know to be the most aggressive of the betta types

Tetras will not respect the betta, in fact tetras are quick and attracted to bright long tails and would quickly make a meal of your bettas beautiful tail.

So no it would be a very bad idea to put your betta in that tank, for his own safety :good:

I agree i had a betta in with tetras and angels the betta was peaceful but the angels and neons were not at first i thought it was the the angels so i moved them to my other tank with a load of my bigger fish, the bettas fin kept on getting nipped it was not going as fast as when the angels were in the tank with the betta but it did get a bit smaller so it must have been both nipping the fin i moved the moved the betta to his own little 3g tank and is now fine. is 29g a bit small for large angels and when they grow full size it would be a bit small.
Good Luck

My Angelfish are full grown, and they don't bother the Neons. A 29 gal is fine for a pair of Angelfish, as long as the height of the tank is 18".
