Afew of the little guys have started fo turn horizontal this evening, so will keep an eye on them for the next 24 hours and take it from there. as soon as i can get my camera working ill post a few pics of the wee ones.

1 more question ----- when do the fry start to take on colouration and at what point do i seperate the 2 sexes

I'm not really experienced enough to know the answer to the colouration. Netty or Modaz and some others will be able to answer that though.
As for separating the babies, sometimes it can be 4 weeks, sometimes up to 12. It generally depends on the aggression in the tank and how big their grow out tank is. So be prepared from about xmas time/new year x

the fry will start to colour on their fins first, this happens at the base of the fins and works outwards, happens between 1.5 and 2 months of age depending on the colour gene. leave the youngsters together until you have no option to seperate them, even when they are looking like they are fighting they are not actually doing any damage to eachother, if you see fins missing then remove the trouble makers each time and section them off to outgrows individually, you may well find that some females need to be seperated as well, but ideally you they will live together for a few months yet, ive had 1 lot I had to seperate the lot with in 5 weeks of hatching but i've got 8 seperate lots of different tail types still living in the same tanks and some are almost 2.5 months old and doing just fine. I've also mixed to sets of fry as the father was the same and they get on fine too. Will be soon to divide them up though.

thanks Maddy & Modaz, the last time i counted i thought i saw around 20-25, however just done a recount and there are around 50!!!! so think ive got my work cut out here!!!will get some picks on next post .

Good luck with them There usually tend to be alot more than you originally think cos they are so small and some of them will hide away. Give it another week and they'll become much clearer.
