I currently have 3 x female Betta's and 1 male in a 70G (377L) tank - they live together very nicely indeed and only the females flare at each other on the odd occasion. I bought them approx 5 months ago from the LFS and have since grown to what I would guess to be adulthood - they show the white spot underneath close to the anal fin which im told denotes sexual maturity. I often see the horizontal bars but to date I have never see any vertical bars - this being my trigger to move to a small breeding tank. I have seen vertical bars on much smaller females in the LFS.

How do I know when a female is ready to be introduced to a smaller breeding tank with the male?

As you've been a bit vague on details I won't jump to conclusions. As you probably know, it's a very bad idea to keep males and females together in the same tank (although it has been done). As for you're female's not barring. You tend to condition males and females before getting them to spawn, with high protein food and daily? water changes.

There could be other factors to why your females don't feel like barring. If you don't mind providing your tank dimensions and water stats, it would help create a better picture.

Another thing, if you are serious about breeding bettas, where are you going to put all of them?? I'm not too sure on sucess rate, but from what I've read on here and talking to other betta breeders. If you are sucessful, you'll need space to possibly home 150+ (maybe 200+) fish.

Tis a big undertaking finding homes for them. If you want good advice, talk to some of the breeders on here and keep an eye out for because I'll be keeping a journal of my first attempt at breeding. (male and female already about 2 days from being released together)

Here's a link to a very helpful thread by Wuvmybetta:

Hope this helps :good:

*EDIT* just saw 377L lol  water parimeters will still help, if you could post those up.
