i see alot of pics on here of male fighters in small unheated tanks. is this in warmer climes only or can it be done without problems in the uk? the average room temprature of my bedroom (where id plan to have them if i did this) is 15-20C in the winter, is this too cold for an unheated tank/bowl?

my boys aren't in heated tanks. its defantaly (sp) not warmer here - its been under -20F with the windchill lately. my room stays about a constant 75f and my boys are as active as what i've heard other people's are in heated tanks.

You can keep them in unheated tanks, but when a heater costs at the least £10 and it will mean that they are much more happy and healthy I would pay the £10

I've got my 2 boys in unheated tanks and they're perfectly happy :) one of them will be going into a 10gallon soon, once I set it up for breeding :) (the 10gallon will be heated), and the other one will be getting his own 5gallon hex tank soon which will be heated aswell :)

I have mine in unheated tanks - they are super fine...

but then again im in FL...

I got a heater however - 30 bucs? and my bubs are way more content at a constant 75-80F as opposed to coooooold aszs water... just get a heater... less stress = happy happy fish

I have Never used a Heater in a Fighter Tank since keeping them.

Ive Found Room temperature has always been adequate for them and they have thrived.

The wave Pico I have is not heated and he is always making Huge Bubble Nests.

personally i would have heaters in the tank if you live in the UK, i live here and it can get really cold in winter, and the changing temp doesnt help.a small, cheap heater will be much better.ofcorse, if you live in warmer parts of the world, heaters arnt nessary as the air around the tank is warm.

They are a tropical fish who come from tropical waters, thus the tank should mimic that environment. That means water temp etc. If you live in a hot country and the room temp is that of their natural environment you "might" not need a heater. Having said that for the tiny price they are its just being a tight git not to have one to maintain a constant temp. Unfortunatley people seem to forget that Betta are tropical and throw them in stupidly tiny jars which are unfiltered and heated. Some shops ive seen have Betta in the cold water section!!!

I don't bother- my room temperature is 24C, always. Half the time the heaters to the larger tanks aren't even plugged in.
