well theres probly about a million guzillion posts about what fish are okay with bettas. im going to get a 2.5 mini bowl and will most likley plant for my betta (in a 2 gallon bowl right now). hes pretty agresive actually as i already tried to put him in with this fish looks like a cherry barb but orange with red eyes. and he flared and tried to attack it so im not sure if he would suit a tank with another fish. if not what about a female and a guppy if there is a 3 gallon kit with the hood and light for under 70 dollars i will get althoughh ive heard guppies need more space becuase they like to swim around and such. corys then?? a fish list of exceptable fish with a female and male would be awsome!!. any thaughts??

thanks,

DL

to be honest, in such a small tank the only thing i would put a betta with is perhaps some shrimp or an african dwarf frog. Most other fish would be unhappy in that tank and/or would bother the betta.

Also, one guppy is not worth it and really they want to be in groups of 6+

acceptable fish really depends on the tank, obviously, but include peaceful species that are not colorful or showy enough for the betta to mistake as one of it's own (ex: guppies), which are not nippy (ex: barbs), or which are not going to going to compete with the betta on his level (ex: cories), which aren't going to decide to eat the betta some catfish), and which are not related to the betta (anabantoids).

but if you have a tank of the right size you could do some cories, keeping in mind that they will want shoals of their own or a similar species, so about 6+. Also kuhli loaches will probably be alright. You might be able to get away with certain tetras, but sometimes they can be nippy and some bettas can get stressed by their darting around.

It's trial and error when trying to match a betta to a community. Sometimes you get a betta who gets beat up, sometimes one that can hold his own, and sometimes you'll get one that one morning kills everything in the tank. If you try it, make sure you do have a seperate tank to put your betta in, just in case.

goodluck :good:
