Hi all I just got my first betta and his fins are all ripped up. Can I add some MelaFix to help them heal or just give it time? Thanks!

Oh he's in a 2g tank by himself currently.

i would give him some polyaqua or bettamax. melafix is gfood-but it wont soothe the fins-just keep them from getting infected.

Add a small dose of fungicide, if possible.

If you just got the betta a few days ago, did it rip its fin before or after you got it? if before, return it to the store because it's not worth it to get sick or injured fish because they might not make it (not to mention that they might have other illnesses that you can't see).

He seems very healthy and active. I'm gonna take some pics and post them and you tell if they are too bad to keep him. It's just the ends which is why I thought he was a CT.

I really would rather try and treat anything if it comes up as I think he is a beautiful fish and doesn't deserve to live in a cup again.

Very well. Noble aspirations.

Just don't let it get too far. I've got a betta in a dual betta hex with an advanced case of fin rot. Unfortunately bettafix didn't owrk for him. :/

Hi crazywolf :)

BettaMax is a great product, if you can find it.

It's very important to keep the water clean at all times. Unfortunately, shipping and spending time in those tiny little cups takes its toll on too many of these poor fish.

Good luck, I hope he gets well soon.

Temp, the reason you are having so much trouble healing your betta is most likely because it's difficult to keep the water as clean as you would like when the tank is so small. If you could upgrade it a bit, the medicine would have a better chance to do its job. :)

Hi,

I'm new to Bettas and have been obsessing over how to keep their fins healthy. One of the best ways to "cure" fin problems (according to all the books) is by keeping the water clean. None of the books are written by people who work for any company. IMO, the authors are unbias and that is what you want, right?

As was stated above, if he was sold with fins in a bad state, you're best off returning him. If you do decide to keep him, be sure not to cross-contaminate with other tanks. (buy a seperate syphen.)

Best of luck!
