Bettas At Lfs In 1/2 Gallon Tanks

went to a different lfs today just to have a look. they had 5 bettas lined up in 1/2 gallon tanks they all looked really sad and just sat at the bottom,every now and then flaring at each other, cos their tanks were right next to each other. These tanks have no heating, no filter, just air tablets. they had one betta in what i guess was a 2 gallon, which seemed ok as it was heavily planted, but he just hid at the back.

i felt really sorry for them, is this normal practise with bettas?

If they are being sold thats actually better then what most LFS have. Usually a tiny cup that cant even move in.

Actually, normal practice at most stores is to have each betta in a small cup and all cups are stacked... like at Walmart. So this LFS sounds better than that at least. Plus it's possible that they just got those bettas in from shipping; shipment of fish causes lots of stress.

they were selling the tanks to go with them too. 1/2 gallon isnt big enough for any fish
