Bettas And Other Fish

Can you keep a betta with a dwarf gourami and rasboras? oh and 2 corys!

I did brief research on the gouramis since I've never had any...Most of the web sites I hit said that they have a peaceful temperament. Only one said that at times they can be territorial in a small tank, which makes sense to me. I have some rasboras, and they are peaceful for the most part, but I wouldn't be totally willing to guarantee they wouldn't nip the fins of your betta. They're very flowy and could attract some nipping from them. I do keep long finned danios with my harlequins, and they don't seem to bother them, but danios can swim super quick, and a betta doesn't normally have as quick reflexes as a danio would. Also, the fins on a long finned danio aren't even close to the length of fins on a betta, assuming yours is a veil tail or some sort of half moon, etc. Corys are pretty peaceful. I don't think they'd be a huge issue. However, you need to consider the size of your tank. You don't want to over do the bioload on your tank. If bettas get stressed from the bioload, they can have all sorts of issues such as fin rot and velvet. Consider very carefully putting them together. How many fish are in your tank?

no, i dont think its a good idea. it might work but unless u have a non agressive betta the dwarfs flashy colors are going to be a problem.

I had a problem with a betta and pearl gouramis, had to get an extra tank to put him in, also he went for hatchet fish so i thought it might not just be flashy colours they see as a threat/competition but also anything that tends to go to the surface
just guessing though, could be that mine (Aladin) is weird.

gouramis & bettas are NOT advisable tank mates
they're both aggressive species and the gourami has more muscle generally, i've seen a lot of bettas ripped to shreds after being put in gourami tanks in LFS.

Thanks for all your replies, :good: think i'll hang back on getting a betta till I can get him his own tank. Wouldn't want to get one and then have him stressed out by being nipped by his tank mates.
