Bettas And Guppies?

I have a tank with 5 pretty little guppies and I have a friend that wants me to take her betta. Can he live with the guppies or will he try to kill them??? Thanks!

he will more than likely try to kill them as they resemble betta themselves and he will see them as a threat

90% of betta will attack guppies, but the odd one is ok, it's not worth the risk.

Mine is fine as said its upto personnel temperment of the betta if you add the guppies and the etta to new aquascape so neither has territory then they are moe likely to get along

Your friend's betta will be prefectly fine, no worries! As long as the tank is big enough, the betta won't bother the guppies much.

I know this because I gave my friend my betta, and she has a 30 gallon tank with only guppies inside. The betta sometimes goes after the guppies, but the guppies go after him more.

Also, a couple years ago in my friend's grade 4 class, they had bettas and guppies together in a 10 gallon tank with no problems.

The only thing a betta may do is eat baby guppies, that is, if he can catch them!

If the betta attacks the guppies, just put it in a breeder net in your tank, that way it still gets clean water, but it won't bother your guppies.

My first Betta, Finley, didnt care about my guppies being in the tank but Midnight hated them and he killed one of them. I think it all depends on the nature of the fish.

Very true I started off with 14 fry that I counted possibly more hiding. Yesterday I counted again and had 4 then saw the betta corner one of the fry and now have 3 possibly less.

Just save yourself the hassle, possible deaths and injuries, and get the betta a 5 gallon of his own. Or section off an 8-10 inch long end of your main tank with a plastic divider, to keep him seperate from the guppies but with the benefit of more gallons.
