Hi all,

I have recently bought two female fighters, and 6 guppies for my LFS, I introduced them to my Rekord 70 together, in the hope that they will be ok together.

The fighters are fine, but instead of them hassling the guppies, the guppies show a high interest in the fighters, they seem to have reversed roles?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

for a start are the guppies male?
secondly 2 female fighters or bettas is not a good number ideally they should be kept alone or in groups of at least 4
thirdly the whole betta guppy thing is a hit and miss, from experience i have had female bettas living with guppies then turn and kill them all and they were colourless female guppies

The woman at my LFS said that 2 would be fine, also the Guppies are females, no male Guppies at the moment, possibly in the future.

One thing to remember with any sort of shop is that they want to make a sale. They will tell you what you want to hear, to get you to buy something - anything. Male/female fighters and male/female guppies - it doesn't make a difference.

The best thing you can do for your fish now is buy at least another two female fighters and ideally take the guppies back or rehouse them into a different tank.

its still risky with females, however i currently have a lone female she is very laid back and lives with my juvi guppies, but she was very shy before going into the tank, now she's not, definately think about getting more girls then any signs of aggression chasing at all the guppies will need seperating

if you do get more girls which i highly recommend then before you introduce them you'll have to remove the existing girls and have a move around then add them all at the same time

As already stated, it's dangerous to keep just 2 female bettas together. In that size tank anywhere from 4-6 female bettas would be good. Make sure you have lots of tall plants (if not live, then preferably silk so they don't damage their fins) this will break up their line of sight and they will be more comfortable.
