Betta

Not unless you can keep it at a constant mid 70's to 80 degrees. No flucuation (bad for Bettas)

I use a Hydor mini heater in my 2.5 gal and it works well. Keeps it a constant 80

Well... it depends. How small is the tank? IMO, a tank should be at least 2.5 gallons to hold a low wattage heater. Some have used the 7.5 watt heaters - although they only bring the temp up a few degrees from room temperature. A betta does best in water that is at least 74 - 80F. If you add a heater to a smaller tank - make sure you have a reliable thermometer to keep tabs on the temp that it doesn't ever get too hot.

what is the smallest tank i can have? can you tell me where i can buy one from?

the smallest is 1g.I can get these little 1g tanks from my lfs for about 6 quid with gravel.Or a bigger one for about 8.In thailand they keep there plakats in half galons. 4 wide 4 width 8 depth.

I agree with SoCalMom - 2.5 and up is the best for a betta... they DO need room to swim. Smaller tanks - yes - they can survive but they will THRIVE in a larger tank. Plus the smaller the tank - the more often you have to do water changes...

Actually - that's a pretty-good size tank for a betta... I've seen them here - Marina ones. I think they're considered 2.5 gallons but 2.2 is pretty close. I've never used this but did consider it at one time. Not sure about the filter - if it's too strong - you might have to figure out a way to lighten the output or just make it a 100% water change tank. If you plan on using the filter... do you plan on cycling the tank?
