Got a 60 litre tank with pH level 7.4, ammonia and nitrite levels 0 and nitrate level 10.
Had the betta in by himself then 10days ago added 3platys bit of nipping at the very start but stopped after 30mins and all 4 lived very happily for a week.

Bought a swordtail on saturday which also started off fine but by the next day had contracted a fungal infection. bought fungal treatment and added it as perscribed. all other fish are still fine but since ive added the fungal treatment my betta has just sat in the corner. any ideas? Also how long should i expect for the fungal treament to rid the swordtail of the infection...it has been over a day and no change?

thanks very much.

You really should quarantine fish for a minimum of a week before introducing them to your community in the future. It's easier to treat one fish in a small tank than ALL of them in a big tank.

My honest opinion would be to take the sick fish and put it in a hospital tank....then....do a a 25% water change on the bigger tank to freshen things up. ( There is a good article on Hospital Tanks in the Emergency section).

Your Betta may just be a tad spooked by all of his new tank mates. Does he flare at any of them? Has his color changed? Check his fins, do they shows signs of nipping or wear?

Yeah can really see the benefits of a hospital tank now!
Am just worried becasue the betta was absolutely fine with the new fish until the exact moment i put the fungus treatment in. he flared up at the start but that stopped about after a day of the platys being in there. No sign of fin nipping on him.
