ok, some might know but cloud the betta suffers with some real bad fin rot like every month :( ive tryed everything to get rid of it but it does not seem to be fin rot this time! so...

he seems more bloated then normal, the plants in the tank, well some are just dying away (have been for a while now ive been trying so hard to keep them alive) but other plants in the tank are thriving! so onto the white blobs, there on his under fin and also his tail fin, he is a VT i belive, waters stats are...

ammonia - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrAte - 15 - 20 ( cant work it out )

water changing his tank every weekend (sat) of 25%
any ideas?

feed him a cooked pea chopped up for his bloating and then starve a day. that should help clean him out and lessen the bloating.
as for the white blobs...are they pretty much round and look fluid filled?(not white and fuzzy/fluffy, but just ,well, as you described, balls?
i have an old VT who has these. after much research i found it it a type of fish herpes (like a cold sore). they come and go, are not lethal outrightly, but can burst and infect other SIMILAR SPECIES fish. bettas being kept on their own,. nothing to worry about...just keep the water clean in case they "pop" and he has a sore as a result, it wont become infected. nothing you can use to medicate with as it is viral...it will NOT infect you :)
can you post a picture of it? then i can say for certain if it is the same thing my fish has (and has had since i got him a over 20 months ago).
cheers

ok, should i do water changes every other day then to try and help? the white blobs are also on plants in the tank...he is on his own, i just went and had anouther look at him but a few are gone? no burst marks or anything?!?!? how to i cook 1 pea? lol

the white blobs look round and fluid filled yes the same as the ones on the plants he isnt very old? maybe 8 odd months? def not a year yet

to cook a pea, take a cup, put the pea in. add HOT water and let sit for 5 minutes. then squeeze the pea out of the "shell" and cut it into little bits that would fit in the fish's mouth. easy peasy(yes pun intended:)

as for the blobs...doubtful what you are seeing on the plants is the same thing as the fish...might LOOK the same. are the plant blobs on the healthy plants or the ones that arent doing so well? could it just be mulm on the plants? what sort of plants do you have? any algae issues in there?
how is the betta acting? swimming ok? eating normally? any flicking or rubbing on things in the tank? just keep clean water. is the tank cycled?
if it is cycled, i would just do 30-40% water changes once or twice a week, make sure you clean the substrate when you do this and pick out any decaying plant matter. if the betta has what i described above in the last post i made, nothing you can do about it anyway. but it should show no other symptoms (rubbing or flicking or hiding or no eating,etc.). are the blobs smooth? or fuzzy looking (the ones on the fish)? or does it kinda look like a water balloon(pardon the description but you'll know what i mean-not that it will be huge, just look like a fliud filled sack).
lemme know and i can help a bit more with the fish and the plants.
cheers

well, the tank has been cycled for a good 6 months now, but the plants i couldnt tell you what they are! got some of saltynay if that helps? they begin with E and they also have anouther name, the other one is like a sword type of plant. the white blobs on the betta are like small ballons, def not fuzzy. he acts the same as normal, always sits around the filter and trys to swim agasint the current, eating i have noticed he sometimes decides not to touch his food, i soon scoop it up and feed him half hour later which he then does eat the food, hes not flicking nor rubbing anything alga does seem to be a constate problem in his tank its the kind that sits on the glass the plants with blobs on are the healthy ones mainly

did you get my pm? i tried to include a link to a (albeit blury) photo of my betta's blob...lemme know if it doesnt work
the plants are probably elodea and those are the ones with the white balls on them...it is just accumulated mulm and biofilm...probably not enough flow to keep it off the plants (because the filter is cut for the betta's comfort)...nothing to worry about. its natural.
lemme know if you can get to that pic..if not ill try again :)
cheers

yes that is what the plants are called! yes the flow is real slow in clouds tank, i messaged you back couldnt find the blob lol, hoping someone else maybe has any ideas or input to help ?? unless you have any more ideas loraxchick? i dont want him to die :(
