So my sweet little betta Oliver who got over fin rot beautifully around 6 months ago has suddenly gotten it again.

It started about 4 days ago. Just a little on his dorsal fin. So I moved him into my 1gal hospital bowl and treated with aquarium salt and a small amount of Melafix. Temp is staying around 76.

This is the way I treated him last time he got fin rot. However the fin rot is worsening and spreading, he is now missing chunks out of his anal and tail fin, and his ventral fins are becoming damaged. He's grown lethargic. The only thing that hasn't happened is that he has not paled in color.

I don't know what to do. Right now my family is in a tight financial place, and I am a college student on a college budget. I don't know what to do. :( Please help.

Size of tank.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

I would add maracyn to his tank.

He's not currently in his tank, but in a 1 gal hospital bowl. His tank is 5 gal.

Let's see.. I got this checked at a LFS recently..
Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrate 10 ppm
pH 7.5 ppm

Need a nitrite reading aswell.
Have you added the maracyn.

To be honest right now I am so out of cash I can't afford it. :(
I don't remember if they ever did the nitrite test when I got my water tested, if they did I forgot to write the number down. D:

Earliest I can get maracyn it is next week.. any ideas on how to help to tide him over till then?

He needs treating now. Finrot can be a fast killer if its bacterial.
Do you have any other bacterial meds in stock.

I have some bacteria med I think.. I'll go check to see what it is..
Trying to scrounge money together to pick some Maracyn up tonight.

Just went to Petsmart and picked up some Maracyn. He's in it. Fingers crossed this works.

I assume every day I empty the bowl and re-dose, just like I was doing with the Melafix, correct?

Never used maracyn.
Follow med instructions or ask in tropical discussion.
Good Luck.

He's perkier, finally got a good look at his fins and they are a hot mess. Hoping this helps him heal quickly.. :(

Anyone else know about the dosing question I had?

Do a search on the net about maracyn medicating instructions.

Day 4 into Maracyn treatment..

Oliver is behaving a lot more like his old self and I am not noticing any more rot. No noticeable healing (yet) but at least it's not spreading. :)

You will need to do a second round of treatment.
Good Luck.
