Hi, nervous betta mommy that I am, was schmoozing with (talking to) my Bettalicious boy tonight after feeding him and noticed that one of his upper fins (they look like little wings) looked like it had a small round bite taken out of it!!! He's alone in his 3 gallon filtered and heated tank so I assumed it must be fin rot!!

Treated tank with Melafix (had put aquarium salt in earlier--forgot to put in during water change few days ago), removing charcoal, but now I'm worried if the care I've given him is enough. Reading on the internet, many seem to suggest that he needs an ANTIBIOTIC right away to stop rot...

Please share your suggestions. He's a happy little guy, swimming around, eating and being very friendly like usual. I really want to catch this fast--he's such a cutie!

Thanks and Happy New Year to all!

One thing that wasnt mentioned is that with Pimafix which is better imo, will sometimes make the water foam on the surface. Also you must add extra aeriation to the tank as with all meds, they can remove oxygen from the water.

Easy way to do that is to lower the water level so the filter splashes on the surface or add an air stone with air pump.
