New Betta owner here! We have had our Betta for 3 weeks and all of the sudden he has had brown spots appear on his head. I’m also wondering if he has fin rot? He is fairly active and eating regularly. Any thoughts or tips?

From what i see it doesn’t appear he has fin rot. The end of his fins do look a bit shredded, you can treat his water with melafix to restore his fins quickly (or let them grow back on its own) and also if there are any sharp objects in the tank or sharp plastic objects take them out right away because they will rip his delicate fins. And the brown spots on his head may j be a marking and sometimes bettas will often “change” colors. In the pic it looked like you had gravel, bettas prefer sand its better for them (just a suggestion/tip!) Good luck with him! :)

I would avoid using Mealfix (or Bettafix, which is dilute Melafix, or Pimafix) in a tank with any labyrinth fish. They all contain aromatic oils which can cause problems with a labyrinth organ.
For finrot, salt is the first thing to try. See post #2 here for how to use it
