Hi folks. I have bred Bettas a few time now, but i am having a little trouble this time around. i conditioned the male and female up, places the female where the male can see her, a week later still no bubble nest. so i placed the female into the same tank as the male to see if he would maybe start to be interested and build one. but no. the female went over to the mele in a downwards position as usual. but the male swam away from her as fast as he could. he looked terrified. any ideas folks? any help is most appreciated.... greg

You sure it is a male ?

What fin type is he cause he/she's are so hard to identify correctly especially if it is a short tailed betta ?

Then again not all males are ready to be mated, how old is he, is there any IAL in the water (this helps get him in the mood) ?

I had to try on at least 3 occassions with one male I had cause he just ignored the female altogether but would carry on building his nest took me nearly a month before I got them to wrap.

I had trouble with a young male i spawned he was just way to laid back and it took ages and a few threats (empty threats of course) then i came down one morning and there was a nest. However the female had to keep going up and nudging him to get him to do his thing it took about two weeks to get a nest and eggs

cheerz guys. i think hes maybe too young cos its definatly a male and a female i have cause the female has a short tail and the little egg spot and the male has the long fins. i'll just have to keep trying or get another one. cheerz
