hi i have moved percy (the betta) from my community tank into a 60L but it looks quite empty, there is some tall plants and some rocks but i think he needs some decorations and maybe a few friends.
what type of decorations do betta like?
which tank mates if any should be in there?

ps. i have the temp set at 26 will this be fine for him or should i up it abit?

thanks
Lloyd

26-28 is fine for a betta. I keep mine at 27.

He doesn't need friends. He dosn't care about companions. If you want to add some betta friendly species like corys, then it would look nice but don't do it for him. I keep all my bettas alone with the exception of Sen who is in with some ADFs.

Bettas like lots and lots of soft plants and hiding places. I keep mine in a jungle of live and silk plants and each betta has a cave or hiding place.

Avoid any decorations with sharp or rough edges. I test mine by running some fine stockings over them - if they catch at all, the dcorations are not soft enough.

For a while a kept Goliath on his own in a 54 litre tank - he loved it. I later chose to divide it in two because I had two bettas in a divided 30 litre and wanted to give everyone some more space.

Ok thanks i was looking at ADFs but i have a gravel substrate in this tank and dont think it would be to nice for them.
Im gessing decorations like this are a bit excessive? haha

thanks

You joke but bettas LOVE to sleep on leaves like that. It's best with large leaved live or silk plants, though.

ADFs are tough to mix with bettas as they need to be handfed (bad at hunting and have bad eyesight) and bettas like to steal their food. Plus, bettas can easily bully them and ADFs can be nippy. That said, mine do OK because I feed them with tweezers so the betta doesn't get any and I have a short-finned betta with them. When I had long-finned bettas with them, they always nipped his tail!

I think he probebly would steal there food as he took a blood worm out of one of my shrimps mouths! he is a short fin so not too woryed about nipping, also he didn't get on too well with the corys in my community tank.
would a small shoal of tetra/rasbora? or would it stress him too much?
thanks
Lloyd

You don't know until you try it but I wouldn't recommend trying to keep bettas with any tank mates.

What about dividing the tank and just keeping two bettas?
