If I wanted to keep a Betta I'm leaning towards (as they're not renouned socialites) to keep one in a tank by itself... so how big would a reasonable lone betta tank be?

(I'm not making much sense this morning - going to go leave everyone in peace while I get a coffee and hunt down a proper test kit)

5-10 gallons is a decent size. You could go as low as 2 gallons but IMO that's not enough swimming space and a tank that small is very difficult to heat. Mine has a planted 10 gallon all to himself and as a result is much healthier, happier and more active.

Hi,

Have got my Betta and some Albino Corys in a 30L (about 6.5 gal) planted tank - he's in heaven and eats and plays with the Corys, lol.

Id agree a 5Gall is the minimum sensibly for a fish to allow swimming room and exploration. They need to be stimulated and can get bored really quickly. so get your tank get it planted and cycled then look long and hard for a good quality Betta. There are a lot of really poor quality fish about atm from all the inbreeding :(

Thanks for all the answers, we've got a spare tank which for a short while had a rescued hatchling snake in it so out with the tape measure to work out how many gallons it is...

Suspect around 6 by comparing it with the 13gl tank we've got for fishes.
