I have a 10 gallon fish tank which is tall and i am going to put a male betta in there. I was hoping i could put a female betta in there too. What are all your recommendations to put with the betta.

Thanks.

No female male will kill her or visversa endless would be ok

Also how tall is the tank? Not too tall I hope male Bettas are useless at climbing very tall tanks to breath

You cannot house male and female bettas together as they will fight. Only female bettas can be kept together in a sorority.

Some ideas to go with the betta:
- 6 Pygmy cories
- 6 Chilli rasboras
- 6 ember tetras
- 6 male endlers

Any of the above with some shrimp would look great in my opinion. Shrimp have a very low bio-load, so have almost no impact on the stocking level.

Alternatively, you could divide the tank into two 5 gallon sections and keep a male betta in each. You would probably be unable to keep any other fish with one in that case though, apart from perhaps a couple male endlers.

Some bettas are more agressive than others though and will attack or even kill tankmates. Always stay away from any fish from the same family as bettas and brightly coloured fish with long fins (eg guppies). Bettas have poor eye sight and can mistake them for fellow bettas.

Remember to fully cycle you're tank before adding any inhabitants :good:

The water line reaches 35cm high. Also why will the male kill a female, how do they breed?

they are very terretorial fish anyway and males and females can rarely be kept together. you CAN keep a group of females together but your tank is slightly too small for that

I keep 5 females in a 10 gallon, medium planted. There are a few tiffs rarely, but for the most part we're all good. I have some snails and shrimp too

if you do then they will probably fight, but i have a gourami in with my 4 females and 1 male. they are terretorial so what you will have to do is reareange the plants and everything in the tank and then put them all in at once, then you will have to watch them for a few hours to see if they try and kill eachother and if they try then remove them, thats what i did
