Betta Tank Issues?

For some time now, I've been hunting everywhere in attempt to find my betta a new tank, as he just doesn't deserve his rather rubbish Baby BiOrb. However, I've just not seen anything that's just right. They're always too big, too small, or don't look that appealing.

So, I've had an idea, even though I don't really like it that much myself. Get rid of the bubble tube and as much of the internal filtration as possible, and put down some sand or other substrate. Buy a small hang-on filter, and add plenty of nice silk or live plants into the tank, probably to the rear. Maybe a couple of pebbles or similar to add a little more interest.

Though this would solve the filtration issues (one of the main reasons I want rid of the tank), it doesn't solve size issues. At 15L (and probably a little less due to decor), it isn't very big for him - I had my heart set on something around the 20L mark, rather than staying with his current tank and simply re-doing it.

What you people think? Could it work?

It would work, yes, but why not go for something like a 20L arcadia arc? I've just bought one and I'm hoping to move one of my males into it later today :good:

To be honest though, I'm really not keen on how they look. I don't like the bottom part, with the black and the silver parts, as I have looked into them before.

Hi there I have a 28L aqua one 320 which is perfect. there is also the 48L interpet Fishbox...both are available in pets at home ( not sure if you are in the uk) and also new on ebay

they come with filters, and heater and built in lights so no need to buy extras except decor of course. the aquaone 320 is £59.99 and the fishbox is £89.99 if i remember correctly. I personally like the filter on the 320 as it comes with a spray bar as the current on the fishbox could be a little strong although it is adjustable.

and this is the fishbox 48L (plx excuse wonky photo angle)

good luck with your choice. there are quite literally loads of small tanks on the market...some really posh cute ones too

Fish boxes are nice too!
There are nice, plain nanos you can find that are around 20-30L. They usually stock those in LFS' if you like the style of them :good:

Thanks for the suggestions guys - have looked into the AquaStart 320 before actually, always did rather like it :) But, I'm really unsure of whether my furniture will hold the 28L, as a small coffee table from the same furniture range actually bowed under the weight of just 15L. So, I'm not sure if I should take the risk with nearer 30L on the larger sidetable that the tank would be on. It's coping fine with the 15l, just not sure if I want to chance it - afterall, it would be a lot of money down the drain if the side-table collapsed, and the oodles of nick-nacks and books on it would be ruined... 8-\

I've seen a couple of things that could go into the biorb to change it around, and I've come up with an overall total of about £30 to do the whole thing up with an internal filter...just realised that I don't know how I'd affix a filter though, with the biorb being curved : /

Would it be alright to get a little plastic fish bowl for him to be in while I changed things if I went for the re-do biorb idea (if i don't get a different tank, it which case I'd swap him over once the other was ready)? It wouldn't be for long, of course, just concerned about heating it - water changes wouldn't be a problem.
