I posted about this in the Betta section but thought this might be more appropriate being as it's something wrong and getting worse.

I have had my betta male for nearly a month now. He lives in a 10 gal tank with 5 Neons and 2 Corys. It's a 2 months old, cycled, has live plants, heating, filter. Water test kit shows now Ammonia, Nitrite and only a small trace of Nitrates at 5.0 ppm. I do 20% water changes twice a week.

Since I got him he seemed happy, swimming about all over the place back and forth. I've taken photos and videos of him and he does seem to enjoy himself.

On Tuesday I noticed he was keeping his fins clamped more then normal but also some parculiar white blotches on his fins. He was swimming around quite happily though like normal.

I can't seem to find much about what it could be, possibly fin rot. Other then that his fins look fine, not tatty or ragged or anything, swimming around all over the tank, nosing about, and he has an appetite.

I have been rearranging the tank and plants recently though, I wonder if it might be just a bit stressed maybe. Or perhaps he's hit something, but there is no tearing as I said on his fins. Maybe it's a bacteria of some sorts?

Here was a picture of him two days ago

I started treating the tank with Melafix on the Wednesday and yesterday as well.

Today I wake up and the spots seems to be getting larger and they are starting to show on the otherside where it's coming through the fin it seems. Melafix doesn't seem to be working.

What is this ailment and what do I need to get rid of it. I don't want to lose the poor guy. It's getting worse and I really need some help what to do.

I have done a 50% water change this morning. Perhaps I should dose the tank with some salt?

Please help me

Well today he seems to be about the same as yesterday, though I have noticed him flicking against some of the plants. Maybe not the best of signs. But he is still swimming around, but the flicking is a bit worrying

If he is scratching against plants, this could just be normal betta behaviour as mine does this aswell. However, scratching or rubbing against plants is a characteristic sign of skin infections/parasites. What comes to my mind is that your betta could have the beginning of whitespot. Keep an eye on him for a few days or seperate him from the main tank if you have the facilities. If it gets any worse and does not clear up in a few days, then medicate if that's what you believe it to be.
