:shout: Omg!!! I was vacuuming my tank and trying to be carfull and sudenly my betta was sucked up it. I put him back in the tank and his scales on his back or gone and his tail is ripped. What can I do other than add some salt to the water???Any help is welcome please!

Please i need help im on the verge of tears i love him and i dont want him to diee!!!!

Yes, put 1\4 of recommened salt. Also there is Stress coat you can put in the tank, this and the salt will both heal the fins and they'll grow back. I have done the same thing

Salt, lower water level if he has trouble swimming, keep it dark and warm, make sure he is eating, keep an eye out for infections.

Good luck!

Fresh water heals damaged fish better than anything. Large daily water changes, 50% is good, 75% is better. Every day for the first week, every other for the second week.

Don't feel bad, I've siphoned plenty of fish by accident using a 3/4" hose, all the way into the bucket. Net them out, put them back in the tank, keep up on water quality.

oh dear :(

i would have assumed using a vac with shrimp is a bad idea anyway? you cant really avoid those.

i think i will bear this in mind though as i have sand, when i start to use the vac i know i will syphon some fish as i cant leave it too close to the floor.

with regards to the betta, i would recommend salt too, its a natural calmer. keep an eye on secondary infections, like cotton wool disease as that tends to go into wounds or slime disease (i think it was)

let us know how he goes :good:

Well all the advice i was going to give has been given, so i just wish you good luck with your betta now. I've never sucked up a fish, i always try to be really careful, maybe next time you vaccum put your betta in a breeding trap along with shrimp.
Goodluck!!! Fresh water is the key ;)

salt is not a calmer...it makes the water(environment) less habitable to microbes that may cause infection. bettas dont need salt in their tanks.
just thought id clarify.
cheers

Hes ok all scale pretty much back no infection the fines still healing looking good though!!
Found a shrimp havent seen any more though its werid they were there after i vacuumed but 2

always seemed to work for me, seemed to make the fish calmer and less fritful

but glad he's doing ok at least.

i left my other half to do the vaccing, and turned round to find one of my male guppies get sucked up and out the window!

i managed to retrieve him off the floor, bring him back in, but i found him dead today (at least i THINK it was him ) :(

Hi sanka101 :)

I'm glad your fish is doing well. :flex:

I've done the same thing too. Once I had a cory stuck in the part where it attaches to the hose and had to take it apart and push him back out with a pencil eraser. He swam away and it didn't seem to bother him at all.
