My girl Lilly has had terrible coloring. Pale blue with two horizontal stress lines. I'm adding five additional fish to the tank, including two more blue betta. Because of her appearance I expected her to be recognizable due to those lines.

I just checked on her and her coloring has turned to a dark blue! She looks like an entirely different fish.

Is this normal? I was told by a pet store that her coloring was due to her being "old," but maybe she was just unstimulated?

Ugh, now I may have to name all three blue fish Lilly since they look the same.

Hi, no stress lines have nothing to do with age they come and go depending on the bettas mood, they are perfectly normal, the other bettas have prompted her to show her colours, since it was her tank to begin with she may be the dominant one and will need to show her colour to prove this although you may find the colour comes and goes depending on who's the boss! how big is your tank? and what other fish have you introduced? you may have to get more female bettas to even out a bully but see how they go.
