Hey Everyone,

I'm looking to get 1-2 quality bettas that aren't crownies or VTs in Northern California. I live near Sac and I don't want to travel that far, maybe an hour or two tops. Does anyone know any good fish stores around San Fransisco or Vallejo or in between somewhere. Any help would be great!!!

Thanx,

Elise

There is 6th avenue aquarium in San Francisco which is on Clement and 6th. I got my PK double tail there for 3-4 dollars. They have a really cool marine display (I don't even do SW) but it's really neat to see. Everything is cheap there in general and fish are self-net. You have to be careful to be sure they're healthy. I've never had a problem personally, but I've seen sick fish and have heard a couple bad things. If you go upstairs, they also have 2.5 and 3.5 gallon betta tanks which include a lighthood for $20 as well as some "exotic" fish like leaf fish. OHHH another bonus is they have live food you can buy like brine shrimp and bloodworms $1/oz which actually gives you a fair amount of worms.

Then there is also another one in San Francsico off of Van Ness called Ocean Aquarium (though it's strictly freshwater) on I think Cedar Street. It's kind of a hole in the wall but it's definatly a must see- it's a small store but I was in there over an hour just in awe of how the tanks were kept...so crazy! He's got little tanks stacked on top of buckets and keeps bettas in those tools cabinets with little plastic pullout drawers. Those are not necessarily in good condition but there are others in jars such as crowntails and plakats. They also have an extremely large plant selection. The owner claims to get wilds in the summer when they can be shipped but I don't know about that. Both of these stores carry female bettas.
