Hi,

My Betta has had a huge bubble over his left eye for about 3 weeks now. He is not eating and sits at the top of his bowl. He is alert and looks at me when I go over to his bowl, but I dont know what to do with him. I gave him antiobiotics Maracyn-Two, it seemed to help a little, but that bubble above his eye, not popeye, wont go away. I dont know if he suffering or not!

Thanks!

I would add some salt to his bowl, sometimes they can pop on there own, can you post water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

What colour is the bubble is it clear or white.

Just want to make sure it dosn't look like this pic.

No, its not nearly that large! Its a bit smaller than the top of a push pin and it is clear and red around the edges. Its above his right eye. I am not sure what the ph is I have him at my desk at work. I have had him for about 10 months, but this started about a month ago. I can put regular table salt in his bowl?

Thanks for the help!

Does it look like a greyish white spot with red around it as that columnaris, it sounds bacterial, i would get tetracycline if you can, if not maracyn one and two.
How long last time did you use the maracyn two for.
Household salt is fine in small doses.

I have been using maracyn two in small doses for a few weeks and I change his water every 3 days. I have him in a small contain about the size of a won ton soup pint. How much salt would I put in there? I usually put a small piece of the maracyn in every day, but the water gets ver cloudy after a day or so. I cant believe he is still alive, he hasnt touched food in weeks.

Well you do know if they are not eating not a good sign, usually salt is a tablespoon to 5gal, i would try and get some tetracycline, but to be honest if he's not eating not good, fingers crossed.

Ya, I know. Should I put him out of his misery? Or just see what happens? I will try some salt..can I get tetracycline at any petstore?

Give him abit more time, but i can't see how bad the fish looks, fingers crossed and good luck.

He does not seem to be doing any better. Everyone keeps telling me to put him out of his misery and throw him in some cold water, but I cant bring myself to do it! What should I do?

Very cold water from the tap, add some ice cubes to the water, put the betta in a containers and pour the water over him, sorry not nice but its better than the fish suffering.
