hey all

as some of you may know i moved my betta last thursday because i suspected he had killed a tankmate
he has been happy in his new home and made a good few bubble nests
his tank is an aqua one 320 (28 litres) with undergravel filter
i moved him into the tank after seeding the undergravel filter with some mature media and half filled the tank with water from his original tank

anyhow i was checking my fishys over this morning and noticed that my bettas tail had what looks like little red lumps on the edges of his fins
i have never had any sick fish's before so i dont really know what it could be,fin rot maybe i guess.

so far the only thing i have done is a 50% water change but then decided i had better get some advice before doing anything further

i dont have a water test right now but since i seeded the filter.it should be ok shouldnt it?
also quite a bit of algea has grown in the past few days on his cave (he has a much better lamp in his tank now)
whether that means i have high nitrates or not i am not sure

i took some photos but i cannot find my usb lead to put them on my computer

Sounds like finrot. Could be velvet..... check to see if rust colored spots are all over the fins and body. Doubt it tho. Are the fins deteriorating?

The treatment for the US is Maracyn 1 and 2 in conjunction. I don't know what they have in the UK tho. hopefully someone can help you out that lives there.

In the mean time. Keep the water clean (without stressing the betta out too much with water changes). Melafix and aquarium salt are a good measure, certainly not as effective as real meds... but good.
