I made out like a bandit at the betta show last weekend, and just got some good pics of my new friends. I got the two males I wanted the most, three cuuuute little girlies, and a pair of wild-caught Betta imbellis. I'm planning on using all these fish as breeding stock in the future :D

First, the pair of imbellis... I originally planned on getting some smaragdina, but these two stole my heart and I decided that, until I move out and have more room for tanks, one wild pair is more than enough. The tank is pretty bare right now because I wanted to get them out of their bags as soon as possible and didn't feel like dealing with substrate after getting home at 9:00PM. I'll let them get settled before really setting up the tank all pretty-like. They're still pale and stressed in the pics, but believe me, they're FANTASTIC in full colour.

Oooo, a worm!

This is one of the fantastic males I got. I'm really surprised no one bid against me on this one... at the show he looked kinda like black lace with red, but now that I've got him home, he looks more copper red. I think he won 2nd place in his division (correct me if I'm wrong here, Wuv; I have a shoddy memory.)

The other male, a lovely little turquoise guy. I love the fins on both these boys -- so many rays they look feathery . I think this guy got third in his division... I had to fight for him at auction :sly:

On to the girlies! This female is a really weird colour, and looked even weirder at the show. She looked rather pale and unremarkable at show, but she is GORGEOUS under the light! Everyone who let me get her for the starting price don't know what they're missing!

Steel blue 8 ray female... what a little cutie she is! Very spunky!

Lastly, my steel blue DT female. She's also very, very cute, but a little shy ^_^

They are all gorgeous! But the imbellis...when you breed them, you HAVE to send me a pair. You just have to. I've been looking for a breeding pair of imbellis for MONTHS.

Very very very nice :D that must have been a fun time at that show, I can't wait until one comes to my area, I'll be the first one through the door! hah. can't wait to see the spawn from the imbellis!

Will do
I'm keeping them together in a 10 gallon since I saw they got along so well at the show, so when they want to spawn is up to them I guess. They're sooo sweet, swimming around together and lying side-by-side

Ooh!!! Me too! Me too! *jumps up and down with hand in the air* *grin*

Out of curiosity, has anyone thought of breeding the imbellis to the splendens to possibly eventually get a fish with the temperament of the imbellis, but the finnage of the splendens? I'm not as familiar with genetics as I'd like to be. I wonder if that is even possible. I'd like to do some research and maybe try... Hmmm....

Yes, it's been done. Just don't tell the IBC SMP or Bkk, assuming you like your head attached to your neck....

Syn - beautiful, beautiful fish. The imbellis are lovely, and that copper male is to die for. Congrats on your new bowl buddies!
