I was just wondering if anyone here rescues sick/injured bettas from pet stores, rehabilitates them, then find them new homes? When I go to the pet store I wish I could buy all the sick/injured bettas and help them find good homes most of them are sick because of simple neglect thats easy to fix.

I dont have much room so I can only own 1 betta. If I ever did the "rescue" the bettas would have to stay in the containers until they found a home, BUT, I would treat them better than pet stores and they would have clean water, good food, and be given any medication to recover. But nobody by me would adopt them, otherwise I would mabye buy 1 or 2 every 2 weeks to help and find homes for them. There's just no responsible people or breeders in my area wish there was then I could help some bettas have a chance at surviving.

Does anyone actually do this though or have considered it, sort of like "fostering" them until they find a forever home.

heya

me and my partner normally buys every betta we see in a shop

unfortunatly the last 1 had fin rot so bad we couldnt save it we now breed them ourselves as we have not been able to find a single reputable seller within a 75 mile radius.

I am really interested in rescuing bettas myself later in the year, had not thought about rehoming them, may have to give that a think!

I'd love to do it but im not allowed until i move out lol!
Anyone who lives in the warrington area or close and like rescuing betta's go to:
Unit 7
Riverside Retail Park
Wharf Street
Warrington
WA1 2GZ
United Kingdom
They have about 3 or 4 betta's they dont look to good atall.
£4.16 each.
All red and blue sort of colour mostle blue.

I do rescue bettas and can honistly say it is increadibly rewarding.

BUT do not rescue a betta if you cannot provide the proper living conditions for it as it will not heal/recover at all in the wrong conditions. You also need to consider the fact that the betta may need medications and these cost money.

Rescuing bettas is both risky and can be heartbreaking and may also raid your wallet.

But very very rewarding when they are all better.

They are fish [Mod Edit], not homeless children

why feel the need to 'rescue' a fish ??

Don't start arguing about this please, or this thread will be closed.

Many thanks

Same reason there are dog and cat rescues, and it's rewarding to help something in need. :)

betta rescue is an awesome idea! but you also have to think about when things dont go well, its why i cant work at the animal shelter i cant stand to see all those broken animals get put to sleep.

Aww no :( poor fishies.

If anyone has any rehabilitated bettas that need new homes let me know im looking for my own rescuee.

I agree with you guys, it would be nice to save some, and I don't want to sound like a pessimist here, but if the shop owner sells more Betta's than usual, he may decide to buy much more. Anyone see where I'm getting at here?

I definately get what you are getting at llamalord305 but I think it depends on the store. Some will get in regardless, some the sick or tattered ones seem to disappear overnight so fresh ones can be introduced.. and I only can hope that they have been rehomed though not likely..

The way i see it

Pets@home isnt going out of buisness anytime soon and they dint make most of their money from fish anyway.

So i figure i myt as well help the boor little guys have a nice life for once.
