Betta Questions

Seeming as I'm relatively new to Betta's ( roughly a month or so ) I've got a few questions concerning them. I'd just like a compilation of material that people have on betta care. Maybe you do something that you're not sure if you should be, or have a neat trick or link that will help other betta enthusiasts. Feel free to share. Hopefully everyone new and old can learn something from this threa :

• What, if any live plants would work in a 2-5 gal tank? Also, what substrates would be used for said plants?
• Recommended foods and chlorine removers/water purifiers
• How often do you do water changes and cleanings? ( This seems to be the most varied thing amongst betta owners. This is what you prefer to do, each person has his or her own preference.)
• Your preferred setup for a betta. ( Various sizes of tanks and such )

1) i like to keep java moss

2) hikari betta bio gold ( i think that's what it's called, have to reread my can of it) daily and freeze dried/frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp as a treat. for a dechlorinator, i use a stress coat because i have a bunch of it.

3) i do a 50% water change a week on my 5 gallon with my male betta

4) gravel, heater, filter and some plants with a terra cotta pot as a hiding place

I was thinking about getting this for Shatner. Though I have some worries....Seeming as it's hexagonal and lighted....wouldn't that create reflections on all of the walls, thus causing unneeded stress to the fish... Maybe I'm wrong though, any ideas?

Or, by chance, does anyone know a better 3gal + tank that I can get. I have a 3 gal bowl but.... the only place I have to place my tanks are a bit over eye level, so... bowls kinda' skew the view of the contents.
