I'm thinking of getting a male betta some day and would like some questions answered.

Do bettas swim around actively in a tank, unlike at pet stores where they are kept in something they can barely move in?

What is the minimum tank size a betta should be kept in? would a 3 gallon be alright for them? or should they be kept in something bigger?

If theres any other information you would like to give me about them would be great thanks alot.

hi, i have a male betta in a planted 5 gallon tank. hes fairly active but they do rest quite alot as they arent great swimmers.
i think most people on here will tell you the minimum is about 2.5 gallons, and ideally with a heater and filter.

they are definetely very personable. mine is by my computer desk, and he always comes to say hello when im nearby. hes my fave fish, well, next to my puffers of course :D

Given the right environment, I have no doubt they'll be very active. But when you're buying one and they're in the pet store, they should be active there too. As in flaring at his neighbor at least every once in a while, and generally responding to someone coming up to his little cup.

Mine is very active around his 2.5 gallon, I dont have a filter, and hes fine, just regular changes. A heater is a must though. He will be going into a 10 gallon later when its cycled. My 5 girls are also very active in their 10 gallon, again no filter, they will have a 10 gallon with a filter when its cycled, the bloody tank is taking forever!

ok I think I might get a betta soon, but I won't be using a heater as I live in tropical north queensland and the water stays the perfect temperature. I will be keeping one on stand by for winter though.
