Im just wondering, for those who had bred bettas b4.

Will a pair of Bettas with same tail type spawn bettas same as parents' tail type, and what if diff tail types mate, will their fry have diff tail types? Or it doesn't matter, their fry will have different tail types?

it depends on which genes they carry. the answer is not as simple as yes or no.
cheers

Hi :)
Its really complicated tbh.

You can breed a male and female of different tailtypes (although this is a massive risk if you have no idea what fry you are aiming for) The chances of runts are high.

Eg. HalfmoonXPlakat (long tailedXshort tailed)
You would get some HM's, some PK's and some in betweens like SuperDelta. Some will be uun-identified tail types

Its also depends on what genes they carry, if you are aiming for a specific tailtype, its highly important to know what the parents and grand-parents genes were. As the pair you intend to spawn may be carrying some genes that are not visible.

HTH :)

Thnx a lot for the response. So even a veiltail pair may spawn a tailtype diff to the pair coz the male/female might have a crowntail/halfmoon/plakat father or mother? So I guess It's unlikely to have a batch of fry having same tail types coz I saw a lot of videos of breeding diff tail types of Betta. Thnx very helpful info :hyper:

Yep, its possible. (not with Vts though)

Vieltails are extremely dominent. So even if a 1 parent/grandparent was HM, you would still have VT's as they are dominant. You might get some funny tails though. (funny as in weird) :good:
