I currently have a male betta in a gallon tank that can be divided into two seperate tanks. Would it be ok if I got a female betta and divided the tank so each one has the own tank. The divider is clear so the two could see each other, and its high enough so they cant jump into each others tank.

The minimum tank size for a betta is one gallon. If you were to divide it, each betta would get half a gallon. Sorry, but it's just not enough space.

It's a lot less hassle just to get another tank. If the tank is truely 2 gallons, i suppose you could divide it, but be aware that it will make cleaning a real pain, and you'll have to do it twice as often. If you really like female bettas, maybe get a 5+ gallon tank and keep 3-5 females in it.

3 females would be the max for a five gallon - AND DON'T TRY IT!!!! There aren't enough females to spread the aggression around and they'll end up dead from fighting and stress. That was my worst newbie mistake....
