hi i have got a male Betta in my tank and he has been acting strange. i got him about 2 weeks ago and put him into my 60 Litre tank with 3 mollys 1 male 2 females 2 platy's both female 3 neon tetras and a plec. i had my water tested at the shop before buying him and they said it was perfect for him i introduced him and he was going fine until last night i had done a water change that day and cleaned the outside of the glass and then after feeding the fish (i feed them micro wafers) i noticed he was acting strange he was swimming up and down the length of the tank with his tail (don't know what it is actually called i am new to fish keeping)spread so he looked much bigger his i will call them face flaps (once again i am new sorry) were pointed out which i have seen him do before but never this much and just below his head his belly looks larger and he was swimming at the glass of the tank. is he ok ? i am getting some frozen peas tomorrow because i think the larger belly may be constipation because i have never seen him poo so i will try that but he hasn't lost his appetite in fact he has a great appetite this made me think he may just be fat but i have no idea. i also thought he may be able to see his reflection in the glass of the tank because it was after i had cleaned it but once again i don't know if that is likely. i don't know if this will help but i also had a case of dropsy in one of my platys which died but i treated the tank and have had nothing wrong with any of my fish since and his scales are not sticking out. oh and last thing he used to stay in the top left of my tank behind a label but the label had a reflecting back to it and ever now and then i would see him staring into it but not doing anything else i removed the label and he has moved to the other side which is blocked from view by the filter.
i know i only put this a bit ago but i have been watching him and he seems to stop doing everything after a couple of hours but he still stares at the glass and has a large belly but he Tail thingy and face flaps are back to normal i am not sure but i think he did it for longer yesterday.and as i am writing this and looking at him his tail and face flaps are back to how they were so i guess he was just having a break sorry this is sooo long oh wait back to normal again.

you are on about him Flaring, males do it when they think there is another male (refections!) or a female present, i wouldn't worry to much until his fins start to tear.

They do have a habit of just sitting staring at you :look:

thanks for the info :) i have tried to feed him a pea but he wouldn't eat it :( i am going to try again tomorrow
