Hey all,

I'm new here, so I just thought I'd share some pictures of my two bettas.

This is Ripley:

And this is Flik:

Now, my question is this:
You can see with Flik, that when I got him, the colour on his fins was only really close to his body... But now, some of it is leeching down his entire fin... Any idea why?

This sort of shows the start of it... Right now, the colour is all the way down to the end... But only on those fins. Oh, and he'd just inhaled a shrimp pellet, hence his big belly.

Thanks!

its probably just red wash and i might wanna take flick outta there  there might be some nipping going on between the guppies adn him

Is there anything that can be done about red wash? I really loved his fins before that. Makes him look a bit odd right now.

And it's actually Ripley in the 33 now. And he's doing just fine. No fin nipping on anyone's part.

Thanks for replying!

I think redwash is just a way of saying red coloring, when bettas mature their colors change so this could be the case.

Hmmm, okay. Darn, though. I really loved his fins before.

Red showing in your betta's fins are probably a sign of just ageing. I -think- thats why some people spawn daughter to father to strengthen the colours to make it so that red wash doesn't appear that brightly. Something like that. Synirr knows a lot about genetics so ask her :p

My fish that has the same coloring at Flik has a blue wash or something. His tail was all white except the base which was dark plum color and now it is bluish where the white was. It isn't as pretty as he was before, but eh...no biggy.

 one of my fish was pretty boring when I first had him..one of the peach coloured with red/orange splotches on but he is so beautiful now and he has turquoise which I am sure he never had before..

my chi has bluewash too, but only in his tail and not in his anal fin
bless.

Marble bettas can and do change colors and it isn't unusual for them to change more than once. I've seen pictures of bettas that have been almost black changing gradually to a very light almost white color. Several breeders websites have pictures up of the different stages of transitions.

Ah, okay. He's still a cutie! I just picked him up at a petstore - because he was the one going "Pick me! Pick me!" in his cup. In the store he looked really white on his body, but as you can see, he's gained more colour since he's been home. Anyway, thanks!

Ooohhhh, Flik is sexy!

Haha, thanks! I mean... Flik says thanks!
