Hello all,

I have a red 'rescue' Betta and in 3 more months I will have had him for 4 years. I noticed for the past 4 or 5 months that his fins and tail seem to be thining out in some areas, almost translucent. Is this just old age or should I be concerned? I don't think you would even notice if I didn't care for him everyday. He's still very beautiful, full of energy, eats well, and threatens all the pest snails that dare to crawl around his corner (he still does occasional bubblenests) I appreciate any opinions! Thanks

:-( Yup hes getting old, Four years old is pretty old!

Thanks much! I guessed that but just wanted to make sure I was not missing anything. I will miss him TONS when he's gone :(

i noticed that sorta thing on my darwin's tail i didnt think much of it because i was treating him for fin rot... but although his fin rots cured its still their so i hope it isn't old age

Up your waterchanges for the next few weeks and feed some frozen bloodeorm. See if that helps. Thinning membranes is generally an early sign of finrot. Given hhis age he just might have a slightly compromised immune system but able to fight it off somewhat so its not progressing to a full blown finrot issue. Clean water and more protein should be benneficial.
Cheers

Thanks again, my Albino Cory just had babies so I have been doing water changes every other day (due to all the extra food and fish) I also was thinking of doing Melafix but wondering if it will hurt the babies??

Id hold off on using melafix. I've had bd experiences with using the stuff with bettas. Clean water and good diet should help.
Cheers
