Betta Not Eating

What causes a betta not to eat? the little guy hasn't touched his food in a week. He also spends a lot of his time lying on the bottom of the tank. He seems to be perking up a little with a lot of water changes and some aquarium salt, but he still won't eat. I'm feeding him pellets, and he always liked them before. Is there anything I can do? How long can they go w/o food?

What are your water readings for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, PH?
How long have you had him?

Sitting on the bottom and not eating can be constipation.
Try some shelled peas, and answer some of stang1 questions please.

2.5 gallon tank, no tankmates, have had him a year and 7 months. Will check tank stats.

Actually, his stomach seems normal. I feed three or so betta bites pellets once a day.
