I have a betta who jumped yesterday evening while in a temporary bucket (my husband accidentally dropped something against her tank and broke it--oops!), and unfortunately she partially dried before we noticed her. She has been returned to the bucket and then the new tank, and did look mostly recovered last night and even ate her dinner before I went to bed. This morning her back is covered in fungus she is laying on the bottom. I thought she was dead and went to remove her, but she started swimming weakly for the surface. It is a divided tank she shared with two other female bettas. She looks so bad I don't hold up much hope for her, but am I giving up too soon? What can I do for her? The tank has good suface agitation (there is a filter on the other side where the current doesn't bother her) so she shouldn't be having trouble with oxygen even though she is staying at the bottom. There are some floating plants that she would probably be able to rest in if she wanted to stay near the surface to breathe.

Thanks,
Tammy

Once there slime coat drys up not good news, all you can do is increase aeration like you have done in the tank, salt good but not sure on a dried skin.
Has the fungus gone.

Thanks for the reply, Wilder. Unfortunately the fish didn't make it. :( She died sometime late this afternoon.

Sorry R.I.P.

Sorry to hear of your loss, perhaps stress was a big player in it too.. At least you know to keep whatever container you put a betta in covered from now on xxx

She probably did jump from stress. All of them (all females) were in the bucket together because obviously the dividers didn't fit into it. Maybe she was in a confrontation with one of the others. Who knows? I don't know why I didn't think to cover it. Usually I'm careful about that. I was thinking to try to keep the filter cycled and save as much of the water as possible so that's why the bucket was as full as it was. The tank broke on the worst evening possible. We were staying up late with a lot to do anyways, and it was an added stress that took up a lot of time. Maybe it was my stress that made her jump! OK, well thats just silly.

Thanks for the condolences. I found a picture of her. I got her at Walmart only about 4 or 5 months ago. I'm sad to have lost her. She was one of my favorites.
