would it be ok to introduce a male betta into a friendly well planted 55g community tank (mostly tetra and other similar sized fish). would like your opinions on this thanks
Depending on what was in there, there is a chance they would be "ok". However I would strongly advise against it, the stress and potential fighting isn't worth it. Your fish could take a slippery slope downwards.
I've got my male Betta in with an assortment of other fish.
Having the tetras as a small shoal of 7 reduces any aggression as
they tend to bicker amongst themselves.
The potential flashpoint is between the male Apisto with the Betta and
this seems to be restricted to feeding time.
Otherwise they just ignore each other.
My advice would be to have a good think about about what fish you have in your community tank -
and if it seems feasible, give it a go.
But perhaps have a Plan B if things don't work out.
My betta currently has his own tank, but I was wondering if I could also introduce him into a 110L community.
I have Rummy Noses(7), Dwarf Neon Rainbows(6), a Flame Dwarf Gourami and a Bristlenose. It's pretty well planted and lots of cover...all the fish seem pretty placid.
It's early days for me but I've got a Betta male in a 3ft tank with 8 Phantom Tetras, 4 Platties and a BN & they all get along fine. The Tetras keep to themselves & the Betta completely ignores them apart from an occasional 'flare' from him when they get a little close during feeding time. I was going to put him into a small tank, but i'll see how he goes.
