I was visiting my lfs and they had some new bettas. they had some "moon tails" (i have no idea where they come up with those names) and the regular veil tails... then i go closer and see a sign "Metallic Bettas $9 (Canadian)" I peek through the small plastic jars and I see what it looked at first as female bettas and then i look again, and long behold "betta imbellis" gorgeous looking buggers (lfs guy had no idea which species of betta these were)... I bought one of them and brought it home... I was wondering what you think about Betta imbellis? I have really begun to like this fish because it looks closer to the natural betta, and has the cutest personality ever – very smart as well.

/Now if only i had a digital camera

I'm starting to like the Betta Imbellis as well. At first I didn't think they were that special but yesterday I went to a fish shop near here that has them and I spent about 10 mins just watching them. They are quite pretty when they flare their fins out:) I was thinking about getting one but decided not to again. The guy said they usually always have them and if they don't he can order them in so when I'm ready I'll probably get a couple.

I wish I could get my hands on a really bright male but they usually don't get the bright ones in :/

I have a Betta Imbellis. Great betta type! so colorful and intelligent. Kind of scary at times since mine loves to play with my powerhead and jump a lot. A definite must get though :D

it's hard to find the "pure form" imbellis but if you do find one i recommend getting it. ;) pure ones are getting harder and harder to find unfortunetely due to cross breeding.

I especially love how this fish can bend his body while turning around - almost a perfect U....

Arg, I'm jealous! I wish my LFS would get in imbellis... or even just plakats.

did you know bettas are one of the only fish species that can do that with their bodies? in thailand, when training fighters they will put them in round containers especially so they will flex their side muscles while swimming around to make them tougher. ;)
