Betta Housemates

As you probaly know all ready Im looking into getting a betta and he will beput into a comuinty tank...

I currentlyhave 2 plecos (Which one is for sale)
and a humbug catfish...

will be keeping my clown plec witch is fully grown (3") and my humbug.Which is also thought to be male and fully grown (4")

I also have 3 female plattys and in time i will be add 3 more femal to make itup to 6...
Oh and a male CT when I find one I like

I have a well planted tank with 3 different hinding places for him and the bottom dwellers. i have a exturnal fuval fliter 105... and a side tank for the betta if anything does go wrong, which i hope it doesnt

I dont need/want any more bottom dwellers. So this is my questions


Could get away with add 6 rummy nose tetras and 6 hasboras with my fliter (I do 50% water change each week)
Also could i get away with these fish with my betta. I do undertand each betta is different... just a rough guess will do me happy

I seriously wouldn't go with the tetras. They might be ok at first and then one day you could wake up to a betta with a lot less finnage than he had the night before. Not worth the risk IMO.

The platies are iffy as well, if you end up with an arsey betta he could attack them as they are usually pretty brightly coloured .

To be honest it would be far easier to give the betta his own tank to begin with .

Well I will try and creep round my mother to sort that out... I have a small plastic one, tha petshops sell with one goldfish... would this be alright for him ? if he is on his own with a couple of shrimp...

its just my betta before him hated being on his own...

How small is small? Take measurements and use the aquarium calculator on here to see how many gallons it is.

I have a Plastic Algarde 5 gallon ( bottom right hand pic in my sig, the smaller tank on the right ) which I have Bronson in. I changed the UG filter for a Fluval 1 though.

The community may still work, but I really would not go with the tetras . Galaxy Rasboros or endlers might work instead.

How big is your tank? The 'humbug' if it is a raphael or 'talking' catfish will get a fair bit bigger that 4" - Bolton aquarium has some at about 6-8"long and 5-6" wide.

my comminuity tank is length 2.5 ft
height 16 inches
and 1 ft deep...


I will take the measurements of the small tank when i finsh my water change on the bigger tank...
