ok here is the deal. i have a 20 gallon tank which three Betta girls share with a butt load of guppies. they all seem to get along, when i bought my Betta girls i bought three sisters from the same local pet shop, all of them got along well only the occasional flaring around dinner time, or at the local snail. then one of the three sisters died suddenly when they went into my filter and drowned. (all fin and no brains) any ways believing my girls would be better off with a third one to there set i set off to find a new girl, although she is not a sister i did find one. a young crown tail and the other two are Vail's. the trouble is while neither of the two vail tailed girls bother each other they focus most of there energy on little Siren the crown. Theria in particular is the culprit she is always chasing Siren around the tank. they have been together for a little while now, and eventually Theria gives up and goes back to doing something else. Siren has never been harmed and outruns her step sister most of the time. the third one peach is quite chunky so usually stays out of it.
this is my first sorority tank so please give me an idea's on what i should do.
i am open to taking Siren out if need be, at this point she is still the youngest and the girls only bother her when i am around. they still let her eat and never chase her away from the food.
i will fill in on what ever other details you need i just can't think of anything else at the moment.
thank you for your help

How long has the new female been in with them? When you introduced the new female did you take out the 2 original females, rearrange the tank and then release them at the same time?

um...no. i rearrange the 20 gallon tank almost on a biweekly basis. (i am unempolyed and home alot i take my boredom out on the fish tanks and rearrange the tanks often)
i got the two girls at the beginning of January and siren about two weeks later. they have been together for about a month now. like i said i have rearrange the tank constantly on them. siren has a spot in one of my planted sections of the tank were she hides/sleeps.

honestly, if youve got the room in the tank, take the girls out and rearange a bit. and then leave them someplace warm in cups to calm down for a few hours. go to a lfs and pick out several more girls, for a 20 gallon I would go with at least 8 total.

the larger number of girls will spread out the aggression, 3 girls is just about the worst sorority because the 2 gang up on the weakest one. with a larger number of girls no one betta gets picked on too much.

the trouble is these girls are not alone, the guppies and snails so adding more bettas is out of the question at this moment. i just don't have the money or the space to add more.

trade some guppies in for a few female bettas:) even 1 more female would get the numbers evened up and help deal with the aggresion. I have lfs near me that will take a bag full and give me something in return.

if no lfs will do that it would be best to seperate the girl that gets beat on. if the other two are happy together then let them be until you can get a few more girl bettas.
