Well, my friends decided to run what's called a gauntlet, where they put super aggressive fish in a small tank and bet on who wins.. Well, this was the first time, and they got three betta males I believe.. I really know nothing about bettas, so I'm looking for some help. OK, prepare yourself for this. They threw one of the bettas out of the car, then went to pick it up and it was still alive. It was really hurt, so the kid that bought it just flushed it saying "that was boring". When the last two didn't fight, they decided to just do something else. I secretly took them. They didn't attack eachother at first, so I figured it would be ok until I get another container. I woke up the next day and a good chunk out of one of the betttas fins was taken off. I immediately sepearated them into two seperate containers. I don't want to spend alot of money on them, but I really don't want them to die. I'm currently investing my money into a Green Spotted Puffer fish aquarium. I need some great advice, and I need to know what to feed them, how to take care of them, and so forth...

No I'm serious, and I really need some advice on these guys...

well they don't need a ton of space. so jars from around your house would be fine. there are cheap betta flakes in stores that they would have no trouble eating.

lets see....they like temps in the 72-82 F range i believe.

i would try to bring them to some LFS that can care for them. otherwise give it to someone who is lonely. like a grandparent or little brother/sister and we could make a quick basics sheet for you to print out for the do's and don'ts of keeping one.

either way good luck. as for your "friends" i wouldn't say punching them would be going too far for something like this.

haha, I agree they are morons. However, I think I will try and take care of them... I just need some advice. Do I put declorinator in the water, because I know they don't really require cleaning. Also, if one of the betta's fins is torn up, is there anyway I could help restore?

Keep them in seperate containers at all times, covered, they can jump.

You could keep them in 1g bowls, but I prefer a little bigger.

Use de-chlorinater.

You should also buy some betta-max at your lfs, if not, use the stress-coat because it has aloe.

I would probably change the water every day because if those fish are injured, they will be more prone to disease.

You can buy betta pellets at any lfs.

Theres probably more, but I'm sure other members will chime in.

BTW your friends are a$$-----.

Yes, you'll need to dechlorinate the water, because not doing so will damage the bettas' gills. You could try adding some aquarium salt, which should promote the healing of the fins. Indian almond leaf also works well, I've heard.

Everybody here has given you great advice ( )

as for your friends...

i hope you try tell your "firends" fighting fish is not good

These friends of mine also put 13 pond bass and blue gill in my 5 gallon during the MIDDLE OF CYCLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, they want to run another one against my puffer when he's older, but they won't understand he will rip them apart.... Anyway, thanks for all the help, I've successfully stolen 2 mix-in containers at work, which look exactly like circular bowls. I'll change the water first thing tomorrow.. Keep me updated on advice please!

THOSE FISH NEED LIKE 250 GALLONS FOR TWO OF THEM!

Also
A. "Friends"??? I DONT THINK SO
B. THOSE SON OF A F###### B######!

Dude @_@...

Get some new friends... I would.

as for your new babies give them each a gallon of fresh dechlorinated water. if they have any open cuts or sores get a fish medication for this. Keep the water warm and add a small ammount of aquarium salt to deal with the stress from the new environment.

you can put their bowls next to each other and watch them flare sure, but don't fight them... it's just inhumane to get enjoyment from the pain of animals.

I like to see you have the morals to know that these fish deserve a good life, and that you've come here for help. Glad to see you have the heart your "friends" lack.
