Today I was feeding my fish, and he accidentally mistook one of the floating rocks (there were a few stray floating rocks at the top) as food! This "rock" was the black diamond rock from the Diamond Blend (http://www.marineland.com/products/consumer/con_diamond.asp). These are used to filter to take and keep ammonia down, so in other words, these aren't normal rocks. I was hoping someone could tell me if he is going to live through this, or if there is anyway I could help him...

So he swallowed the rock.
Is it stuck in his mouth.
I would ask in tropical chat about the rocks themselves.

It could cause a blockage or he could poo it out.
Feed some peas to help him go to the toilet.
Cook peas for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell, mush beween fingers and add to his tank.
Not sure on the chemical in the rock asked someone to help on this thread.

I would remove the rest of the rocks in the tank.

Are you sure that this all wouldn't be too big for hus stomach? He ate a food pellet at that same time as he ate the rock, so he's pretty full. Should I do this right now or in about two hours?

If the rock was still visable could remove it from his mouth.
If he swallowed it it has to pass through.
Is it this product.

I would still feed the peas.

You can feed fish cod liver oil but forgot the dosage as he needs something like this.
Yes, that's the product. The rock isn't still visable, and he isn't gasping or seemingly "choking", just acting normal right now. Thank you, I'll go feed him a pea now, since I don't have cod liver oil.

If you can get the cod liver oil I would use one eye dropper of the oil in his mouth.
Wrap him up in a wet cloth soak in tank water, ask someone to hold the betta down for you.
Don't feed for two days once you have used the cod liver oil.

using an eyedropper, put two drops of cod liver oil directly into the goldfish's mouth.

That sounds very traumatic for my betta fish (he isn't a goldfish). If I were to do it, should I wait a few hours after I've fed him peas? Will the trauma be worth it; is this going to help him that much more than the peas?

Cod liver oil is for constipation it's usually a last resort.
You need to get that granuale out of the system fast if its has chemical in it.
Cod liver oil flushes the fish through, but you are not meant to feed for two days after giving the fish the cod liver oil.
Thats why I said one eye drop instead of two as betta's are a smaller fish to a goldfish.

You can use cod liver oil on betta as that where I found out about it on a betta site.
