Hi All

I recently noticed my betta split his rear tail which is slowly healing but the tips of his fins is becoming clear and look a little tattered and over the past few days hes becoming aggressive towards the 3 tetras I have (not attacking them but he flares his fins out and gills open up to make himself look bigger, never done that before  ) hes still quite active swimming around building a bubble nest and doing what fish generally do best :fish:

could this be fin rot? I know tetras are fin nippers but I have never had a problem since they where put in the tank and they seemed to all get along until the past few days could this be the tetras nipping at his fins?

from what you just said going clear or discoloured and tatty sounds like fin rot, sadly at the moment ive got it thanks to LFS..., going back today to demand a refund on the fish that have passed and free bottle of fin rot treatment

Didnt get them from Pets@Home Did you??

Sounds like it could be fin rot.
If so, clean water will clear it up.

Are you sure the tetras are not nipping??

I'm almost sure they are not nipping his fins, I spend most of my time at my desk working from home at the moment and its on my desk in front of me so I see it practically all day every day and lose myself watching the fish most of the day only time i don't really watch it is during the night when I'm asleep, so I don't think its the tetras doing anything but i will keep a closer eye on them now

what should i do about his fins just a water change?

I would start with daily water changes to keep the water 100% clean.
Can you move him to his own tank for a week or so??
If not water changes in the tank he is in should be fine.
Just keep a eye out that the fins don't become infected otherwise you'll have to use some medication.

Would try with the clean water first before going down the route of meds :good:

no i have not got another tank so I will have to stick to water changes how much each day just 25%? or a little more? the tank is relatively clean any ways because I keep up with my water changes and top it off every now and again when its needed

i have no where to put him and i dont want to subject him to been in a tiny little bowl like you see most bettas in i was planning on getting a larger tank within the next 2-3 months i might just have to push that to the next week :p and get him moved or move the tetras to the new tank and leave my betta in the 23l by himself :) i might have to find a way to partition the tank some how until then i will think of something :)
