I've recently inherited a betta, so now that little fishy-san is mine, I want to move him into a bigger tank. But, decorating. What do they like?

I was considering something with caves and leafy plants, this guy seems to like sitting on leaves and stuff, but, i'm not sure if that's because he's been unwell, or if it's what they do.

Any ideas on what'd be comfortable for a betta?

Leafy plants are good, as well as floating plants. I have Fio in a 25 gallon tank and he likes to hide in the floating plants, and rest on the leafy plants. Caves are good too!

What do you mean by "unwell or that's what they do"..? Is he acting weird?

 @ fishy-san , I call mine the same thing sometimes when I'm talkng to them :look:

Silk plants or ones that aren't sharp and hard work best. Live works too. Good luck with him, and bettas are lazy little guys, as long as he eats and swims around, it's ok for him to chill on leaves and such.

Thanks guys. :D

Well, I've never owned a better, so don't know normal. But, he did get very sick while being 'looked after' by someone. He belonged to a friend who went overseas, so someone agreed to look after him, during which time he got awful finrot, would sit on the bottom or a leaf and not move, even for food. He seems a lot better now. He still lazes about, but, he'll get all riled up if I go near his tank, or put something near it, and he goes after his food now, one time leaping from the water when I opened the top. :D

I was thinking silk plants, I can't keep normal plants alive let alone watery ones!

I think half the fun will be fitting out his tank. :D

If you can't keep live plants alive, silk plants are the best bet for bettas. I had some plastic in my first betta's tank and he ripped his fins up on them.
Here's an Australia link I've found, good luck and have fun setting up his tank!

Ah thanks heaps! I've been having trouble finding places in Australia that have prices on the net. *adds to bookmarks*

my sch has a pond full of water lettuce and the gardener is encouraging me to take as much as i can as the pond was overcrowded :D

If you decide you want an easy live plant, I bought some lily bulbs in my walmart aquatics section (2-3 in a pack, big brown things) They are fast growing and look great. You might want to check and see if you can find some! Though, silk plants work great too ^_^

Hornwart and Water Sprite are also some plants I've found very hard to kill.

Congrats on the new boy!

Also, for 'little caves' if you want something simple, I like 1.5 inch and 2 inch PVC tubes (a hit with my girls, but my boys really just look at them) and terricotta pots
