i just today bought a 2.5 gallon tank for my female betta. i had a heater and small sponge filter i wanted to use with it but the glass hood doesn't fit properly with the cords so she managed to jump out while i was at work.

i found her behind the tank (fortunatly a very small fall) and i thought she was a goner but she moved when i tried to pick her up so now she's back in the tank, hopefully getting hydrated.

for the last ten minutes she's either been floating near the top or sitting at the bottom. her color is starting to come back and i've seen her attempt to swim sorta once.
what do you guys think? she's my first betta ever, i really want her to be ok so any suggestions or anything would be greatly appreciated.

Ive had a betta do that, it was out for 10 min i figure and it lived. I just added stress coat to the water when i added him back in, and he was fine.

Hope your betta is ok..

Bettas are pretty resiliant. Add some stress coat and then let her relax. Perhaps dim the lights so she feels more calm.

she didn't make it. she last about six hours after (as far as i know) and then i went to bed. next morning she was gone.

Awww poor thing. :-( :rip:
Maybe it'd be worth drilling a small hole in the lid to feed the wiring through so a future betta can't jump out? Be much safer and far less sad then having it happen a second time.
Hugs,
P.

I'm sorry to hear your betta died. At the LFS a girl found a female betta on the floor. The fish-worker went to pick it up with the net and dispose of it, since it looked dead, but it moved so she put it back in the tank. I am not sure if she lived or not, but she jolted back to life when she hit the water.

I have a betta tank that I like and my fish seems happy in. It has a plastic covering to prevent the bette from jumping out when I deposit food. It was only $20 and came with rocks, plants, a pump, and a light. It's called Aquatic Gardens Mini-Aquariums and a pic is below. It come sin four colors: Green, Blue, Purple/Pink, and Orange.
