Help!

My girlfriend bought me a betta a few days ago as a present along with the "Betta Kit" tanks. I've been feeding him according to the directions and using the water conditioner when I change the water, however the water would cloud quickly and i would have to change every few days. Today I changed the water and took out the gravel, thinking that maybe dust from it was causing the cloudiness, but when i returned home today, there was a yellow/brown diarrhea looking substance on the bottom of the tank, and alot of it... should i be alarmed, or is this natural??

It's hard to tell these things without a picture. Bettas shouldn't have diarhhea-- could you be over feeding and what you're noticing is the disentigrating food? That's more likely. More specifics are needed-- pictures, what you're feeding and how much/how often, size of the container, etc.

thx for posting the first one on this. i was typing a response and realized i had nothing to offer regarding good advice....... betta diarrhea is certainly not the case tho. i'm thinking *maybe* overfeeding or some reallllllly odd tapwater.

as constantine said, give us LOTS OF INFO. tank size, plants, betta behavior.......

there are just so many random variables with a post like this, but it seems like an unfamiliar problem from your description.

could you take some pics? even with a camera phone?

when you said betta kit, I am guessing that it is the small hex or box shaped container that does not hold much more then a few cups of water.

even with minimal feeding the smaller the tank the quicker it gets dirty, what you are seeing could be uneaten food or built up waste from the fish.

like the other said, tank size, food/ammount of food given, plants deco, and schedual of water changes would help.
