I currently have a betta in a 10 gallon aquarium by itself right now, but i plan on stocking the tank with some tetras maybe guppies and a cory or sae, but i was wondering if the betta (i think male) is capable of getting along with the other community fish?

I saved him from my sisters betta bowl after she discontinued caring for it, but he might end up back in a bowl if he isnt capable of getting along with the other fish.

This thread will help.

Some bettas will get along fine with other fish, while others won't. It depends on the betta.

Guppies= maybe, the brighter colored males are a no because the betta might mistake it for another betta, less-colorful guppies MIGHT be ok, I wouldn't chance it though.

Tetras= maybe, most tetras will harrass a betta and the smaller types might get eaten, there are some that will be ok with bettas though (my white-skirted tetras get along with my female betta)

SAE= I believe they get too big for a 10 gallon?

Cory= yes, it shouldn't be a problem (again, it depends on the betta). Cories need to be kept in groups of atleast 3-4 though.

IMHO, a male betta shouldn't be housed with anything. They are just too aggressive, and you won't find out if he is aggressive or not enless you "test" him with other fish which wouldn't be very safe. He would be happy to have the 10 gallon all to himself, OR maybe with some bottom dwelling fish (won't be in the bettas space) such as african dwarf frogs, cories, or small loaches. Or you can divide the tank up and have 4 or less bettas.

alright i think i will end up buying him a new home for himself, thanks for the help :)
