Going against what some might do, I purchased a female betta that I just couldnt pass up. I also have a beautiful red male with a hit of blue on lower half of body and tail. I have them next to each other in separate tanks and the female seems to do what she is supposed to. SHe flares back and she has dark stripes going down her. She seemed to be getting fat with eggs, but my males isnt building a bubble next. Why is that? What should i do? Should i get a another male?

I have looked and it says nowhere about a male not building a bubble next haha. He may just not like to or something

haha I am thinking the same thing. They flare and they seem like they want it, but nothing. I will try again tomorrow.

I have them both in a 10 gal. tank with a divider in the middle so they can see each other. I also put them together for a couple minutes and they dont do anything. Does that mean that I should find another male? Should i get one that is more expensive so I know he has a better chance at a nest?

I am no betta expert by any means but I have been trying to get my bettas to spawn for a very long time now.as I am typing this my male is finallybuilding a nest, he's in a 1 gallon hex tank which is sitting here next to the computer my female is in a tank next to him. I bought them over 3 months ago and ttried everything to get them to spawn I put her with him a couple times and they would fight that is all. I think they were to young. They were my first bettas, now I have several and they are all different sizes and ages. I am seeing that the younger ones arent interested in mating only fighting. I dont know if age has anything to do with it or not but I know I now have after three months a bubble nest and a really fat female. I just wish I had them in a 10 gallon with divider, so if I ever get fry It would be easier than trying to move them from the little tank. I wish you luck and lots of fry

Thank you very much, glad that somone understands us trying to breed bettas. I was researching online and 1 man suggested that instead of using half a paper cup, to use a little square of wax paper. I stuck that in there and when i came back an hour later he is building a nest. Going to wait a little longer then i am going to put them in and see what they do.

Thanks.

It is a 10 gal. tank and i have a divider in the middle that separates the male and female. They both have a plant to hide and to feel comfortable in.
